African star apple/fruit or cherry is a fruit that can give you a great deal of vitamin C.it is a typical native fruit eaten widely In Africa. Its botanical name is Chrysophyllum albidum, it's also a source of food to many tribes in Nigeria. Igbos call it "Udara", "Agbalumo” by the Yoruba's, while it is seen as Agwaluma in Hausa.


The beauty of this fruit is that it is very affordable and never scarce once it's season approaches. Also, vitamin C is not the only nutrient you get from eating this African star apple, it's a good source of potassium, magnesium, zinc, Vitamin B2,B1etc.

The fruit has a very sweet taste, the ripped ones taste sugary or soar. The sour taste may be due to the fact that it didn't natural drop down from the tree on its own, but when they are allowed to naturally drop by itself, its taste is usually like sugar. This could be a superstitious belief.


The taste of  milky juice that comes out of it when squeezed is enjoyable and helps stimulate human biochemical activity.
